As a Country Transport Manager you are responsible for the coordination of all transport activities throughout Germany. Your responsibilities will revolve around the daily managing of Transport Contracts with the Transport Service Providers (TSP’s), the further development of store distribution and the managing of fleet damages to ensure that our trailers are used as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Daily Activities

Tactical

You will support the Transport Manager of Europe in building the future vision regarding transport planning and invoicing (self-billing) throughout Germany. This means defining and building efficient transport solutions for stores, as well as defining and developing procedures with the TSP’s according to Central Planning and Dispatching. Additional it is important to optimize the regional network in terms of improving delivery schedules by balancing the service requirements from the stores with capacity requirements from the distribution centers (DC’s) and the utilization of trucks. You will also be accountable for the day-to-day management of the country Transport Budget, varying from approximately 20 to 50 million per year. This will all be in close cooperation with the German Supply Chain Manager.

Operational

From an operational perspective, the Country Transport Manager is responsible for the securing of transport capacity and scalability, based on weekly forecast meetings with the TSP’s. So you must always maintain positive relationships with the TSP’s. Contract management is an important part, which entails monitoring TSP performances as well as initiating corrective actions in collaboration with the TSP’s and DC operation. You will solve operational bottle necks like capacity constraints or holiday delivery schedules. Furthermore it is necessary that you define and implement Transport related processes and projects along with other department such as IT or sales. You will also support the LSM and the Supply Chain Manager in providing the best in-class service for the stores across Germany. You will help them with any and all daily issues that get escalated.

Who are you?

Our future Country Transport Manager has a solid background in retail distribution throughout Germany. It is imperative that he or she has knowledge of the local transport market as well as warehouse operations. While it is important that you have a background in operations like having been a logistics managers, you should also be able to set up a future strategy. You are able to create and implement proposals for efficient and effective working methods with the least degree of complexity possible, while demonstrating a high level of pragmatism. Typically you are very organized and skilled in the structuring of activities and projects, as you stick to deadlines and work according to specific guidelines. You are able to perform, even when under pressure.

Furthermore you have:

  • Bachelor / Master’s Degree
  • 10 years or more experience in working with transport partners;
  • Fluent in German and English, both written and oral
  • Works efficiently and effectively, also when under time pressure.
