As a Set-up Team Specialist it is your duty to provide input for a project plan in the early stages of opening a DC. This project plan will include the most important milestones put together in a detailed plan with corresponding deadlines, identifying the accountable person for each step. Not only will you understand and execute the process, you will also describe these in reports and work orders.
Additionally it is important for the Specialist to maintain a complete overview of purchasing and all necessary tools like trucks or rolling containers, so that this overview can be used again when starting up another new DC. You will follow-up on orders of resources, realizing the availability of such resources before opening the DC, as well as testing and ensuring that these resources function as they should within a timely manner.
The transfer of knowledge and know-how to new employees is also a key activity. It is important that the departments of the new DC are aware of the right work methods, system usage and generally required information. Not only will you relay the Action formula, values and culture to employees, but you will also coach the management where needed so as to improve ramp-up of a new warehouse.
Also, you are a contact point for questions and issues. It is your responsibility to solve or provide answers for issues whenever you can, as well as guiding and advising departments for important processes like recruitment. Ideally, you would signal and solve any upcoming problems in a timely manner before they occur. As a contact point it is also important to communicate relevant information to stakeholders, for instance by doing inventory, tracking data and relevant key figures and analyzing this data.
